Our Story

Our company, Southern Hunt Finery LLC and our brand, Whistlin Collar, are focused on spreading awareness of the wonderful aspects of hunting and field trialing behind a beautiful-classy bird dog. All ages can participate so it forms multigenerational bonds and gives the opportunity to be in the middle of beautiful lands.

If you enjoy hunting, field trialing, or simply watching a dog in action, you will love our brand!

We promote these age-old southern traditions that involve bird dogs, horses, and the bob-white quail because it is our family tradition as well.

It began In 1943 when our father and grandfather, Freddie Epp, at sixteen began quail hunting with his best friend, Red, and Red's father. He loved watching the English pointers and setters hunt so much that he got a dog and trained it; then he started training his friends' dogs. In 1954 he ran in his first field trial and placed. Those first family bird dogs were Jake the setter, Sport and Lady, the pointers and then Snowball the field trial pointer. They clinched the deal for a lifelong avocation, vocation, and family way of life. Now the second and third generations are heavily involved in competing, training and hunting, and the fourth is getting started.

Share in our family traditions thru our art, our family photos and our experiences embodied in our comfortable t-shirts, hoodies and hats with more on the way!
